Happy Birthday

Mike put James down for a nap this afternoon. About 20 minutes later, he came wandering out (he can climb out of his crib and open his door now, which basically means my life is over) and said, “Mommy, I wake up now.” I said, “Oh, it’s time for a nap,” and he said, “Oh, man!” So, I picked him up and took him back to his room and asked him if he wanted me to sing him a song. He said yes, so I asked him which song. He said, “I wan Happy Dirsday.” So I sang Happy Birthday to James and he settled down and slept for 3 hours! Ever since his birthday last month, Happy Birthday has been his favorite song and he sings it all the time. He even sings it to the girls when we’re in the car. Genevieve thinks it’s funny and cute, but Analise gets really irritated and yells at him that it’s not her birthday. So, then he usually keeps singing it over and over to Analise. That’s the part that I think is funny.

Justin Timberlake

Last night we were watching an SNL rerun on tv. It was one where Justin Timberlake was the host and musical guest. Mike said, “Oh, this one is so funny.” So James looked over at the tv and saw Justin Timberlake performing Rock Your Body and said, “It’s Nate!” He was then running in and out of the room while it was on, but every time he saw Justin Timberlake he would say it again. “It’s Nate.”

Snow!

We had our first snow of the season on Saturday. Every time we went outside, James would say, “It’s raining?” and I would say, “No, it’s snowing.” We went through this several times. Then he caught a snowflake on his hand and I said, “See, it’s snow,” and he said, “Oh! It’s raining snow!”

Sometimes it's hard to find things that are right in front of you

Mike told James to pick up his Toy Story figures. There was one left sitting on the floor right next to his foot. Mike said, “James, get that one right by your foot.” First he looked up towards the Christmas tree and the ceiling (the ceiling is exactly where Analise looks for things, too). So Mike said, “No, right next to your foot.” Then James took his shoe off and looked inside. I guess Mike should have told him to look right next to his shoe. After that, James walked around the Christmas tree and the ottoman looking for the toy and then sat down right next to it. So, then Mike had to go over and physically point to the toy for James to see where it was. James then picked up the toy and said, “Here it is Daddy!” Wow! Don’t call him Sherlock.

Beach Week

On Wednesday morning James and I were at home hanging out. I was cleaning and he was playing. He took all his clothes off (but not his diaper this time) and brought me his swim trunks. He said, “Help pwease,” so I helped him put them on. After a little while it was time to go get Genevieve from school, so I tried to put some warmer clothes on James. “No, I’n goin da beach,” was his reply. We really needed to leave, so I said, “Okay,” and grabbed some clothes to throw in the car for the errands we were going to do after picking up Genevieve. When we got to Genevieve’s school, her teacher, Mrs. Avery, opened the car door for Genevieve to get in. Genevieve shrieked and said, “James, you’re naked!” “No, I’n goin da beach,” he said. Then, he said, “Hi Mrs. Avery. I’n goin da beach.” She told him to have fun at the beach and he said, “Okay, I’n goin da beach!” It was pretty great. Genevieve and I had a good laugh in the car after that.

Halloween

So, the James Funny Story of the Week is about Halloween. The first house we went to was our next door neighbor. When Bob opened the door, James said,” Trick a treat, “ just like we had rehearsed and then said, “ Oh, I come in,” when he saw the bowl of candy. We didn’t explain to James that we weren’t actually going to go inside anyone’s house after we rang their doorbell and they opened the door. That is how it usually goes. Well, maybe not for missionaries, though. Anyway, after that, we when to trunk or treat at the church and James caught on really quickly to that whole thing. He said “trick a treat” and “tank you” at every car and looked into his pumpkin bucket in amazement after each piece of candy was dropped in. When we left the church, he said, “I get wots a canny in my punky!” He was so excited by all the candy that he kept opening a piece, but then would see another piece before he had eaten any and would open another and another. By the time we got home, his entire bucket was full of opened candy and lots of wrappers. Oh, and his costume. He was Winnie the Pooh, which he was really into. He kept saying, “I’n pooh bear, right here,” and would pat himself on the chest. All in all, it was a great night.

I'n a baby

Genevieve asked, “James, are you a big boy?” James answered in a silly you sort of way, “ No, I’n a baby. I’n Baby James. I wike my baba an my binkie.”

Also, today when James woke up from his nap, I went in to get him and it was apparent that he had stripped down completely and slept in the buff. Luckily, he didn’t pee on anything this time. Funny guy.
